ALASKAN MALAMUTE 101 PART 5 (GENERAL HEALTH)

In the previous articles, it was focused on the health problems. But in this article, general or basic health information about Alaskan Malamutes will be discussed. This includes fatality, morbidity and on how they cope up with the climate.
FATALITY
The expected life span of a malamute is 10.7 years. The cause of their fatality is cancer. It is bit intriguing and nearly fictionalized. But, it is fact and about 36 percent of the malamutes died because of cancer. Cancer is not only experienced by humans but also togs especially to this kind of breed.
MORBIDITY
According to the 2004 UK Kennel Club, the most commonly reported problems of their health were musculoskeletal and cataracts. Musculoskeletal refers to the disability of the dogs to use their muscular and skeletal system which greatly affect the stability, balance, and locomotion of the Malamute. Cataract is cloud formation happening in the eyes which greatly affects the sight of the dog.
CLIMATE AND SURVIVAL
This breed of dogs is originally suited in winter regions. With that they have very dense coat of furs. But nowadays we can find these dogs even in sunny countries. So they are not use to it and not suited to their physicalities. To cope with that, they need plenty of water during hot days.
I hope this article that i have prepared will make you aware and more concern on the conditions of the dogs we have and promote responsible ownership to them and also exercise also their right as a masterpiece of creation.

ALASKAN MALAMUTE 101 PART 4 (GROOMING)

Just like humans, Alaskan Malamutes need to have proper hygiene in order to feel fresh and to be clean always in order to avoid some bacteria and viruses that causes unwanted diseases. So it is necessary for us owners to keep our malamutes well-groomed.
This kind of dog should be brushed twice a week for having a very dense coat of furs. The Alaskan Malamute has a dense coat and should be brushed twice a week. This breed sheds very heavily. The undercoat comes out in clumps twice a year. Bathing is most unnecessary, as the coat sheds dirt readily. Dry shampoo occasionally. This dog is clean and odorless.

We can also make use of protein coat conditioners and de-tangling solutions for convenient purposes. In order to save tremendous drying time, usage of modern velocity dryers is necessary. It is preferable to use a large pin brush for the hand fluff dry process.
As a finishing touch, we should not forget to cut or scissor the hair under the feet even with the pads and trim any stray hairs. With that, grooming for your Malamute is complete.
You will now have a cleaner, fresher, cute and fashionable Malamute dog. In the way how your dog look at, represents the kind of personality of the owner the dog has. In grooming your dogs, it does not mean the appearance of your pet but the responsibility you have as the owner.

ALASKAN MALAMUTE PART 3

On the part 2 article, common health problems of an Alaskan Malamute were discussed. For Alaskan malamute 101 part 3 we will concentrate on the exercises that should be given properly to this kind of dog.
Reasonable amount of exercise is an essential for malamute dogs. This exercises includes long daily walks. But always remember, they also have limitations. Its because we must not harsh them especially in warmer weather. With addition to that the trainer or the master of that dog must also knowledgeable in what are the proper ways in walking your dogs.
In walking your dog, be sure that you are not walked by your dog. If you let your dog do that, it may form on its brain a kind of psychology that he is the master or superior and not you. As the famous saying states: "Leaders go first." This can possibly greatly affect the mentality and the personality of the dog you have. It is also a negative thing that if your dog is ahead, he or she will be stressed and not relaxed. The great reason for that, if the dog is ahead, or he is the leader, he will carry all the loads of problems. Not just like the dogs which are just following their masters, they are comfortable because they just depending on their masters or trainer. So there's no need for them to be stressed in order to handle everything.
As a master, you must also bear in mind that this is not a form of heeling. Its because as a human you are the one having the decisions for making your dog heel.
The continuation of this topic will be seen on the next part of my article that will be posted as soon as possible.

ALASKAN MALAMUTE 101 PART 2

On the part 1 of Alaskan Malamute 101, the appearance and living condition for that breed of dogs was discussed. For the second part; health problems will be the center of concentration.
Mostly, the common problems to these dogs is the destruction to their digestive system which causes their tummies to become bigger. In short, canine bloat occurs. The danger in it is stretching and the lack of blood to the stomach's cells can cause cell death, or necrosis. What makes it even worse and more immediately serious is when the stomach actually "twists and turns" (known as Volvulus) at the top near the esophagus and at the bottom of the stomach at the pyloric valve.
The dog goes into shock and then cardiac arrest. This can happen within several hours after the start of bloat. That is why, you must RUSH THE DOG IMMEDIATELY, to the vet or animal hospital.
The factors that causes canine bloat to these dogs were not actually known by experts just like the veterinarians and some research scientist. Its because, when they tried to have an experiment, all of the results were not successful. But the scientists believe in some points.
These causes in which they believed in includes the breed (especially the Alaskan Malamutes), the dog is deep-chested, malnutrition and being aggressive. But these were not totally explained and treated as a fact but a mere belief only.
Other common diseases of the malamutes is dysplasia and chondrodysplasia. These diseases were relating to the abnormalities in the passing of genetic materials of the adult malamutes to their offspring. It affects the mutation which greatly disturb the genetic code of a dog which can unfortunately affect the physicalities of a malamute, especially the height.
This is just a proof that an Alaskan malamute needs more tender attention, care which is bounded with love from us people who is responsible also on handling them. Even though they are just animals, but they have also the right to be treated from their illnesses and continue living happily in this world.

Alaskan Malamute World 101 (Introduction)

Based on the breed standard of the American Kennel Club, Alaskan malamutes have the range of sizes of 23 inches for females and 25 inches for males. Female malamutes tend to be less heavy than males. The usual colors for this breed are gray and black, black and white, and solid white. With regards to their eyes, they have brown-shaded almond eyes. They have very thick coat of furs which protects them from extreme cold weather.According to the American Kennel Club breed standard, the  Malamute's tail is well furred and is carried over the back like a "waving plume". Corkscrew tails are occasionally seen but are faulted in the American Kennel Club  breed standard (a corkscrew tail is commonly seen in the Akita). They well-furred tails aid in keeping them warm when they curl up in the snow. They are often seen wrapping the tail around their nose and face, which presumably helps protect them against harsh weather such as blowing snow. Their ears are generally upright.

Loyalty and intelligence are just two of what an Alaskan malamute famously have. They are sweeter and more affectionate to their masters. They are not suitable for guard purposes because they are so very friendly to humans. Sometimes they become as a form of destruction because they act immaturely as a puppy. With that they need to undergo training. Even though they are hard to train but they could be well-mannered because they love to please everybody. They are quiet and eat less. But always remember, proper socialization with people and other dogs is imperative and obedience training is highly recommended.

Apartment life is a great no no for them. Its because they enjoy outdoors. With that, they need at leas yard to play in.  They like to roam in what he considers to be his territory. In hot climate, they need plenty of water and shade to survive because this breed of dogs are tend for cold climate.
